Passive Fire Protection
Passive fire protection can sometimes be used in lieu of sprinkler systems or other fire protection features. It may make sense to choose a passive fire protection scheme or a mixture of active and passive systems to protect your facility.
Most people are familiar with the basics of fire suppression (sprinklers, fire extinguishers, etc.), but passive fire protection that actually contains a fire at its point of origin and help with the spread of smoke can be invisible and nearly forgotten…until the day you come to truly appreciate it and depend on it.
- Structural Fire Protection- Protects essential structural components (structural steel, etc.) from the effects of fire.
- Compartmentation- Physical barriers that limit the spread of fire or smoke. (fire barriers, fire walls, firestopping materials, opening protection, smoke barriers, etc.)
The Model Codes are the main driver of when and where passive fire protection should be installed. Shaver Fire has the expertise and experience to analyze and identify where passive fire protection can be utilized to protect your facility.
