Meet the founder & owner

Derrick Shaver is a professionally licensed Mechanical Engineer and Fire Protection Engineer with 17 years of professional experience. He has been a fire protection engineering lead on a variety of multiple-discipline projects. His experience includes code consulting, hazard assessments, industrial fire protection, sprinkler piping layout and design, transformer replacements, hydraulic analysis, deluge water spray systems, water mist systems, carbon dioxide systems, dry chemical systems, fire water storage tanks, passive fire protection, fire pump design, underground fire mains, fire hydrants, AHJ presentations, and Battery Energy Storage Systems.

In addition to fire protection, he is a licensed Mechanical Engineer. His experience includes nuclear and non-nuclear power generation, government defense, manufacturing, metal fabrication, pipe stress, and chemical processing plants.

He received his A.S. Pre-Engineering at Hiwassee College where he was a member of the baseball team. He received his B.S. Mechanical Engineering at Tennessee Technology University in 2006 where he was also a member of the baseball team. He lives in Knoxville with his wife and two boys.

He has worked at several different companies including Gowin Mechanical, Bechtel Power, Y-12 National Security Complex, Lauren Engineers & Constructors, and Mesa Associates. It was at Mesa Associates where he worked with was mentored by a brilliant subject matter expert in Fire Protection with over 35 years’ experience on numerous projects before his retirement. Derrick was quickly known as “The Fire Protection Guy” and realized the need to be a licensed Fire Protection Engineer due to the increasing demand for fire protection engineers/consultants and the relatively small number of licensed Fire Protection Engineers there are compared to other disciplines. He devoted most of his free time developing the skills needed to be a fire protection engineer and soon obtained his Fire Protection Engineering License (by examination).

Multi-Tenant Design

If you're the property owner or manager, there are many safety issues you have to address.
